Some days, I just absolutely love my job. I get to document love stories as they unfold, and today was really special. Jason contacted me a month ago from South Africa. He and his girlfriend were coming to the U.S. on vacation, and he wanted to propose in Central Park. The plan was for me to communicate with him and be in place before he asked the woman of his dreams to marry him. So, as far as Victoria knows, at this point I’m just one of a half a dozen photographers shooting the ducks and geese on the frozen pond near Wollman Rink. She’s just taking a selfie with her boyfriend, completely unaware that her whole world is about to change.
I couldn’t hear what Jason said, but when he got down on one knee and slid an absolutely gorgeous ring on her finger, her smile and her tears of joy said it all.
She said yes!
Even though I hadn’t officially introduced myself yet, I could tell without a shadow of a doubt how perfect they are for each other based on how tenderly Jason wiped away Victoria’s tears.
Jason really pulled off the perfect proposal. Victoria was *still* crying with happiness even after we took a few fun “bling photos” and took a moment to jump up and down with excitement (because honestly, when you are in a different hemisphere and half a world away from your mom and your best girlfriends, you need *someone* to excitedly jump up and down with you after the man you’ve loved for a decade asked you to marry him. I am happy to oblige!)
As we walked back toward their hotel on Central Park South, we popped into a few photogenic locations for just a little bit of “engagement session”-style photography.
They went on a romantic carriage ride earlier in their stay, and now they are off for more New York adventures!
I’m so pleased I got to document this for you. Thank you for letting me be a part of it. Congratulations! Best wishes for the most wonderful wedding!
Filled Under : Engagement
I love when my alumni brides and grooms call me again for maternity or baby photos. It’s the best, getting to see my happy newlyweds a few years after their weddings, becoming parents and growing in love. We had a wonderful maternity session in Central Park; it was a windy but gorgeous spring day.
